Why Employees Steal

Why Employees Steal...

Employees see opportunities to steal from employers because employers make it easy to steal.

90% of the time, its the managers fault. For example: If you leave inventory by the back door, and have little or no video security cameras, then you are tempting the employees to steal.

Your management team is probably responsible for some theft by providing temptation.

Here are some of the most often reasons employees say they steal:

1. I am way underpaid for my skills. So I will get even where I can.

2. Everybody takes things, even my boss.

3. The company makes a huge profit off of me, I deserve what I am taking.

4. My boss anoyed me off and I this is how I get revenge.

Protect your company after a theft too There are serious legal and employee relation problems that can arise from not handling a theft in an appropriate manner. Here are some tips to evaluate employee theft, after the fact.

1. Deal with employees suspected of theft carefully. Employee interviews about a theft tests the emotions, restraint, legal knowledge and objectivity of every manger and supervisor.

2. Evaluate the source and validity of any information that alerts management to a potential theft problem.

3. Gather evidence, including video from anyone of our DVR's,  regarding the theft possible, prior to taking any action, large or small.

3. Summarize and review facts and findings. Include management team, attorney, and or auditor in areas of legal and accounting concerns.

4. Top area management required: Since the consequences of mishandling the investigation of employee theft is so great, top management should be involved with every employee' theft issue.

Digital CCTV Recorders

dvr1000 web.jpgUntil recently most cameras have been of the analogue type, producing good quality images at an affordable price. However, the introduction of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has increased both the flexibility of using security cameras while enhancing the quality of the colour images produced.

Even at the most basic level digital video images are superior to video recorded on analogue systems. Sharp, crisp images are stored which can be replayed over and over again without image deterioration. Yet another advantage of digital systems is their flexibility of recording modes. Recording can be done by schedule (i.e. time or date), alarm activation or via smart motion detection.

We at SEI are able to offer a wide range of digital recording options.  From a large professional system to a stand alone DVR unit for smaller businesses on a budget, SEI can help.

Advantages of Digital CCTV

  • Faster Retrieval Times – No more plodding through hours of videotape. Utilising digital CCTV, users can instantly retrieve video- even for remote viewing. Users can rapidly search events by time, date, location and camera
  • Archiving - Important information can be archived to HDD, CD-R or DVD for later retrieval, months or years down the line
  • No Tapes- With analogue systems tapes need to be replaced on average every 3 months, whereas digital storage media has an almost unlimited lifetime
  • Transmit and Receive Stored Data – Across town or across the world, video images can be remotely viewed, easily saved, retrieved, displayed, copied, printed, faxed and emailed
  • Less storage space required – Users may set the system to record when motion or other predefined events are detected so there’s no wasted “dead taping”. Video is then compressed and efficiently stored to a PC’s hard drive
  • Higher image quality – Digital CCTV provides unbeatable quality. Digital video can be easily enhanced and copied over and over without losing its original quality dvr dg90-family web.jpg
  • Better quality – a recent study determined that in systems using analogue technology, only 1% of recorded data was usable. With digital systems, a whopping 60% of recorded data was utilised in the apprehension process due to better indexing and retrieval
  • Less Obsolescence – Because most systems feature software which can be upgraded, your CCTV system’s lifetime can be extended
